DOTHAN, Ala. (October 14, 2025) – Jonathan Langley, a security professional with DSI Security Services, has been awarded the 2025 Ralph Day Memorial Security Officer Heroism Award for his life-saving actions during an attempted mass shooting at a poultry processing plant in Mississippi. This prestigious award is the highest honor a security officer can receive for acts of heroism. Langley accepted the award at the 2025 ASIS International Global Security Exchange Conference (GSX) in New Orleans.
Langley acted quickly and decisively when a disgruntled former employee, armed with an assault rifle, returned to the facility with the intent to inflict mass harm. The attacker had already started firing in the parking lot and was moving towards the plant where hundreds of employees worked.
Standing as the final barrier between the assailant and the facility, Langley assessed the situation and confronted the gunman directly. Demonstrating exceptional composure, training, and courage, he neutralized the threat before the shooter could enter the building or harm anyone. His actions prevented what could have been a devastating tragedy.
“The bravery shown by Officer Langley is truly heroic,” said Eddie Sorrells, CEO of DSI Security Services. “In critical moments, he did not hesitate to protect lives. His actions saved many employees and demonstrated the significant impact and value of professional security officers. We owe him our deepest gratitude and respect.”
Each year, ASIS International, a respected industry association, presents the Ralph Day Memorial Security Officer Heroism Award to recognize an outstanding security officer for their acts of heroism. This award honors those who perform courageous actions in situations where private security officers risk their lives to save lives and/or property. Nominees must be employed as security officers with a contract security company.
